Keynote Panel:
Brasilian Perspectives on Software Production

Abstract

This keynote panel will bring different perspectives on software production from three very experienced leaders in large companies in Brasil. The panelists will present a blend of industrial research and industrial development experiences, and their requirements engineering challenges will be discussed. The keynote panel will be moderated by Julio Cesar Leite of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), the General Chair of RE'13.

Biographies

Keynote Panelist

Karin Breitman. Prior to joining EMC as the General Manager of the Brasil R&D Center, Dr. Breitman worked as a Computer Science Professor in the Informatics Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). She graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Rio de Janeiro State University, got her M.Sc. degree in Computing Science from Rio de Janeiro Federal University, and her D.Sc. degree in Informatics from PUC-Rio. She is the author of over 70 research papers in conference proceedings and journals. She has received numerous research grants from public institutions and private industry, including NASA, CNRS, IBM, Hewlett Packard and, more recently, Microsoft. She recently published Video Processing in the Cloud and edited Patterns, Programming and Everything, both by Springer Verlag. Karin's research focuses on Software Engineering and its applications in Knowledge Representation, Big Data, Semantic Web, and Cloud Computing.

Roberto Leite is R&D Director and heads the Offshore Instrumentation Business Unit at Chemtech Engenharia, which he joined in 1995 as a software consultant for the development of real-time systems. He received B.S. in Physics and Software Engineering from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ) and received an MBA in Project Management from the Federal University of Niteroi (UFF). Throughout his career, which started in Encal Consultoria e Aerolevantamentos in 1978, he has developed and managed projects for the sectors of Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Defense and others.

Jaime Sábat is Senior Manager at Accenture and leads large systems integration projects at Telecom companies. He received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ). During his career, he worked on Brazilian Telecom company start-ups and has a broad experience on systems implementation on the telecom arena. In addition, he has participated on methodologies deployment and CMMI evaluation on large organizations.
